As we head into summer, those of you with yard irrigation systems will want to get your system ready. On this week’s episode of You Got This!, we discuss the easy pre-season tasks to prepare your home yard irrigation system for keeping your yard properly irrigated.
Begin by checking the controller on automatic systems, make sure the batteries are good or that your power source is connected and working properly. Next, you’ll want to make sure you’ve turned your water source back on; you’ve likely turned it off over the winter months. Once you’ve turned the water source back on, take the time to inspect the valves to make sure their working properly. You’ll want to check for leaks from loose or broken wires. Pets and pests are notorious for disconnecting irrigation systems.
You’ll make sure the connectors are tight so you don’t experience any unwanted leaks. Do a visual inspection to make sure the valves and/or wires are not underwater. It’s recommended that you go to the end of the run, to the crimped pipe. Open this pipe up so you can flush out the system to avoid any blockages. You’ll recrimp this once you’re done. Turn the system on and make sure your emitters are flowing freely and you don’t see water spurting in any spots.
