DIY Electrical – When to Call the Pros

grass valley electriciansWhen you’re relaxing at home, do you notice lights that flicker or dim? Any wall outlets that appear discolored? Do you often trip your circuit breaker?

With summer being wildfire season, it seems we’re focused on safety, but for this episode of You Got This!, we’re specifically talking about electrical safety.

Electricity is nothing to play with, and certainly while some people have the skills to do some minor DIY fixes, we recommend calling in the pros. This month we’re offering an electrical safety inspection, performed by a licensed ABT electrician. At each inspection, the electrician will:

  • Remove and test a select number of outlets and switches. If we find a problem, we check the remaining outlets and switches and repair the issue.
  • Check your ground fault interrupters (GFIs) for proper functioning and, if needed, recommend GFIs that meet code.
  • Check wiring for proper installation.
  • Check cable, phone, and internet connections.
  • Check for driven ground rod installation and connection.
  • Check main and sub-panels.
  • Check for open grounds and proper polarity.
  • Inspect corrosion of any grounds or bonding.
  • Check for overloaded outlets.
  • Inspect carbon monoxide and smoke detectors and replace batteries.

Prevent those “pesky little issues” from becoming big, safety hazards to your family.  Remember that electricity is all about heat and you don’t want to ignore signs that you need a control panel upgrade, or that your electrical outlets are forcing too much amperage through them.  When in doubt, call ABT and have a pro take a look at the issue.

For the month of July, ABT is offering a special price of $99.  Give the office a call and set up your electrical safety inspection.  Call (530) 230-5024.
