Clogged Sinks D-I-Y

clogged bathroom sink grass valley plumberIsn’t it such a pain when your bathroom sink clogs, but there’s no hair or anything to clog it up? And what about the smell coming from your garbage disposal? Well don’t fret—Rosalie and Andrew are back with tips on how to fix both of these issues!

The first problem: the clogged bathroom sink. Unbeknownst to most people, regular everyday hygiene products, in this case, toothpaste, will actually create a sort of scum and stick to the sides of the pipes and cause it to clog. But it’s no big deal, there’s an easy solution for this—homemade drain cleaners. A simple way to get rid of the old toothpaste scum residue is to pour ½ cup baking soda down the drain, then follow it with ½ cup white vinegar, and it’ll remove the residue. Another simple way to clear it is to pour hot water into the drain.

Now onto the garbage disposal, and the funky smell coming from it. The easiest solution is, once again, to use hot water. Stop up the drain with a stopper, fill the sink with hot water and some detergent, then remove the stopper and let the water do its thing. There are some other cleaning options, such as using baking soda and vinegar, ice, and even the peels of citrus fruits.

That’s it for this week! If you’d like to catch more plumbing tips like these, please return next week, and remember: You Got This!
